Avoid Those Blisters and Keep Skating!

June 24, 2016 by Zach Sanders Leave a Comment

Nothing can ruin playing in a sporting event or being active like a few aches and pains, and if you dofeet blisters it often enough it’s almost inevitable. And though roller skating is perfect in most other areas, it is not excluded from this. Other than the occasional spill in the rink, one of the most common roller skating pains stems from the feet. Blisters. If you skate often and long enough, blisters will most likely happen to you too. A bad enough blister can really ruin an otherwise great skate session, so how do we avoid them? Skate World Leesburg, located in Leesburg, FL,  wants every skate session to be an enjoyable one, so here are our tips on how to keep your feet blister-free.

  • Properly Fitting Skates – This should be your first line of defense against pesky blisters forming. Blisters happen when there is too much friction between your foot and the inside of the skate. Be sure that when you rent or buy a pair of skates that they fit your foot well.
  • Toe Pushing – This is another huge contributor to blisters from roller skating. Many people when they skate tend to be “toe pushers.” Instead of pushing off with your toe while skating, push off with your whole foot to mitigate the heel moving up and down.
  • Double Up – If you feel that these dreaded blisters are unavoidable, double up on your socks and give you feet and extra layer of protection.

We wish you all happy skating! Keep up with more roller skating tips and rink news on our social media pages. Follow us on Facebook, Twitter and Google Plus.

Skates Fitting a Little Loose? Adjust the Laces!

April 29, 2016 by Zach Sanders Leave a Comment

roller skate lacing

Roller skating is, to us, one of the funnest activities imaginable! But all of that fun can be derailed by improperly functioning and fitting equipment, especially roller skates. But a skate that doesn’t fit quite right, doesn’t always mean that you selected the wrong size for your foot. While this is a very definite possibility, you may also just need to simply adjust the laces. Like skates, feet come in all different shapes and sizes, and sometimes minor tweaks need to be made. Skate World Leesburg in Leesburg, FL, wants to see everyone in our rink having nothing less than a great time! So, follow these lacing tips if you are someone who is struggling with this.

  • High Arches? If you have really high arches that cause the tops of your feet to be raised a little higher than most, relieve that pressure. Roller skates are supposed to be a little snug, but not uncomfortable.
  • Is your heel slipping? If this is you, and you have been fitted for skates by someone who is knowledgable, try this lacing technique that will help alleviate this issue.
  • Toe problems? Let’s raise them up a bit! This particular lacing method will help to alleviate hammer toes, toe corn, nail problems and any other painful toes issues you might experience with your toes.

Start Your Roller Skating Journey Today!

February 5, 2016 by Zach Sanders 1 Comment

We all have to start somewhere, but starting can sometimes be the most difficult part of a process. This is true for most things, and it is true for roller skating as well. It can be a little disheartening to visit your local roller rink for your first ever skating session and see all of the experienced skaters performaing all sorts of complicated movements. You will get there though, you just have to take that first step! Roller skating can be easy once you get the hand of it! If you thinking of visiting Skate World, located in Leesburg, Florida, to try your hand at rolling around the rink, Six Children 2here’s everying you need to know!

The Necesities

  • In order to roller skate, you need, well, the skates. But since you are a first timer, some safety equipment is a great tool to have while you’re learning. Elbow pads, knee pads and a helmet will help keep you protected while you’re getting the hang of things.

Let’s Get Into the Rink Now!

  • You’re all geared up, so now it’s time for the fun part! Before you start rolling around the rink, and doing tricks, you need to know the basics.
    • Place your feet shoulder width apart.
    • Bend you knees and squat slightly. This will give you a bit more spring, and aid your balance.
    • Find a sweet spot with this general stance that you feel comfortable with.
  • You’ve got the stance down, now let’s get moving!
    • To start rolling around the rink, position your toes outward and your heels inward.
    • Practice walking like this until you find your balance. You may fall a few times trying to get it just right, but that’s what the pads are for! After a while, you will gain more confidence and be well on your way.
    • Start to move your feet more quickly, and take longer strides.
    • Begin to push off harder with one foot while you glide on the other. Glide farther and farther distances

Look, you’re roller skating! It’s always a great idea to take someone with you that has previous experience to help get you up to speed.
